Sunil Deepak

Dr Sunil Deepak studied medicine in India. His other studies were in leprosy control, epidemiology and a master degree in disability studies. He is head of the north-east regional office of Mobility India in Guwahati (Assam, India).

Dr Deepak has been involved in community-based rehabilitation (CBR) programmes in different parts of the world since 1988, especially in areas of training and research. Another area of his work has been in leprosy programmes, especially in the rehabilitation of persons affected with leprosy. He is among the founding members of International Consortium on Disability and Development (IDDC) and was the president of International Federation of Anti-leprosy Associations (ILEP).

After three decades of work at international level in many countries of Africa, Asia and Latin America, he returned to India in 2014. His areas of interest are research, learning materials, training and evaluation in community-based programmes including CBR, community-based inclusive development (CBID) and community mental health.

He has coordinated a large number of international workshops, training courses and conferences. He has contributed to different disability related publications of the World Health Organisation (WHO). He has also been consultant for the Disability and Rehabilitation team of WHO in organising multi-country research initiatives and regional conferences.
