Bruce Chooma (Zambia)

Bruce Chooma is a development specialist currently focused on the promotion of disability rights and communications for development, and is currently employed as National Coordinator at Disability Rights Watch in Zambia. He is working actively to support Disabled People’s Organisations (DPOs) in Zambia, developing further on his experience working at Sightsavers and Power International, both organisations providing technical and capacity building services to DPOs. He also has experience in working with media and non-governmental organisations. Bruce is a writer and blogger on disability rights, politics and media and is a member of Africa Blogging. Bruce has previously worked with the international charity Sightsavers as media consultant and Programmes Assistant. He was also media consultant for the PROPEL Disability Programme at the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and also worked as coordinator for the Zambia Disability Platform. He previously held other posts at the Zambia Institute of Mass Communication Education Trust, Palisah News Agency, Times of Zambia and Zambia Health Journal. Bruce was also previously vice chairperson of Gender and Media Southern Africa, public relations and marketing manager at the African Center for Democracy, Development and Public Policy (ADDEPP) and chairperson at the Organisation of African Youths Zambia, Chapter.
